Apple Recalls Beats Pill XL Speakers Due To Fire Hazard

Software and iPhone manufacturer giant, Apple Inc., recently recalled their speaker Beats Pill XL in fear of overheating that might cause fire, CNet reported. According to the article, Apple released an official statement that asked the entire Beats Bill XL users to stop using them because of fire hazard. Apple also voluntary recalled the speakers, with refunds, to avoid brand defamation and further lawsuits that might stem out from the defective product.

Apple has yet to determine the cause of the recall but they are heavily leaning towards the batteries, as per The Guardian's report. The iPhone Manufacturer however was quick to debunk rumors that the products they are producing are becoming sub-par year after year and called the incident as "rare". They also confirmed that the other products they have released, speakers or not, are not affected by the said issue.

The speakers were formally launched by Beats Electronics in 2013 (November) after Apple acquired the company for $3 billion from rapper/producer Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine. The Beats Pill XL was priced at $325 in the US and 215 pounds in the UK.

Steve Job's company may be known not to be affected by these types of business glitches; Apple has recalled some of their products in the past. In 2004, they recalled several units of lithium ion rechargeable batteries for the 15-inch PowerBook G4 laptops due to fire hazard. Also, in 2006 they have recalled numerous laptop batteries that were manufactured by Sony, for the same reason. And in 2011, again, for the same reason, they have recalled their 2005 issued first-generation iPod Nano music player.

The recall program needs an owner to submit a return request by filling out a form for the Beats Pill XL Speaker Recall Program Request Page on their website. Apple will then send back a postage paid box for the return of the speakers. After the speakers are shipped and received by Apple, they will now give the owner an Apple Store credit or electronic payment, as a refund.

According to sources, the process will usually take around 3 weeks.
