Windows 10: 5 Things to Know Before Installing the Latest Update

Windows 7 and 8.1 users will be able to download the latest update in the Microsoft software - the Windows 10 - on July 29.

When Windows 8.1 was released, it was mainly eyeing for almost seamless optimization when multi-tasking in both PC and mobile. Now with its predecessor, according to TechRadar, "it was clear that, with an operating system optimized for PCs, tablets and phones in unique ways, the Redmond, Wash.-based firm was onto something."

Skipping the Windows 9 name, Microsoft is showing a few glimpses of what to expect from its latest software update, such as the animated Live Tiles and a slightly translucent interface in the Start menu.

And the good news is, the company has released a detailed guide for its users to prepare for the update. To help you get started, here are five quick reminders for the Windows 10.

1. Two versions

Microsoft has provided two choices for its consumers: the Windows 10: Windows 10 Home, or Windows 10 Professional version. Based on their names, more consumers are likely to use the Home version because of its completely free and easy-to-use services. The info on the Pro version, however, is yet to be fully disclosed. The creators were only able to share quick introductions on its versions, including the Windows 10 Mobile.

2. Software check

Make sure that your PC is up to date. For Windows 7 users, you need to have the Service Pack 1, while for the Windows 8 users must have the latest 8.1 update.

3. Hardware check

Here are the system requirements for Windows 10:

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster processor or SoC
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) for a 32-bit version, or 2GB for 64-bit
  • Hard disk space: 16GB for a 32-bit OS; 20GB for 64-bit OS
  • Graphics card: DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver
  • Display: 1024x600

4. Updating time

If you have the software and hardware fully functioning, you're almost good to go. The next step is allotting 3GB of memory and lending about twenty to one hour of your time for the update. Microsoft, however, cautioned, that some of your applications may be left behind in the update.

5. Cost

What cost? Like all of its past versions, Windows 10 is completely free. The update will only cost if the actual Microsoft software is not genuine.
