'Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Plot': Villain Kang the Conqueror Won't Be Part of the Film

In a report from ign.com, "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" (GotG2) Director James Gunn put to rest the issue of having one of the classic protagonists of the Guardians appearing in Marvel's movies in the future. The said villain is Kang the Conqueror, which is reportedly "off limits," as rights over the character are owned by 20th Century Fox.

Kang the Conqueror is a unique villain, as he is a time-traveling character who first appeared in "Fantastic Four" comics as King Rama Tut. He was revealed as Kang a year later, when he battled the Avengers, and from then on has become one of the regular villains. The problem with the character, though, is Kang is a relative of Reed Richards, or Nathaniel Richards, from "Fantastic Four," so he falls within the ownership of Fox, which is connected with the "Fantastic Four" franchise.

In line with the news, Gunn also revealed other villains that won't be seen in "Guardians of the Galaxy 2," as reported by slashfilm.com. According to the director, "Shi'ar and Kang are both owned by Fox. All decisions about who is in 'GotG2' were made a long time ago."

While this may affect the possible film story with Kang battling the Guardians or the Avengers, there are some other Marvel villains that may prove to be worthwhile to appear in upcoming Marvel Cinema Universe films, according to cinemablend.com. They are the following:

a)   Fin Fang Foom. This ancient alien dragon was present before mankind existed. When he wakes up, he intends to destroy the Earth. He reportedly may put both the Hulk and Thor to the test.

b)   Mr. Sinister. This is the persona assumed by geneticist Nathaniel Essex who was abhorred by his peers because of his mutation experiments on humans that he intended to weaponize. It would reportedly be great to see him battle the X-Men, especially when he takes interest on Scott Summers and Jean Grey.

c)   Kraven the Hunter. He is Sergei Kravinoff in real life and made it his mission to hunt down the ultimate prey, the Amazing Spider-Man. The character would reportedly provide a greater context as a human who is able to hunt down a mutant and possibly kill it.

"Guardians of the Galaxy 2" is written and directed by James Gunn. It is slated for release in May 2017.
