Need for Speed 2015: Reboot To Use Same Engine as Starwars: Battlefront

Twitter was awash with activity as Frostbite Engine Technical Director, Johan Andersson of DICE, confirmed that the Need for Speed reboot will run on the same version of engine as the popular game Starwars: Battlefront. report from ign.com quoted a tweet from Andersson, who said on May 22: "Our next @NeedForSpeed by @GhostGames EA running on the same version of @FrostbiteEngine as Battlefront!"

Frostbite is a popular engine among EA developers. It has been used in other titles such as Battlefield, Dragon Age and Mass Effect.

Another report from technewstoday.com states that Ghost Games will be the one to roll out a full reboot of the Need For Speed game for the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. However, the game developer still has not come up with an official title for the racing game.

Gamespot.com also reports that Ghost Games General Manager Marcus Nilsson remained mum about the game's specifics and instead released a teaser trailer of the game. What is known so far though is that the game would be an "open-world, day-to-night racer with deep customization features." This was reportedly achieved through a partnership with another division in the EA group, Speedhunters. There is even talk of an "immersive narrative," which, according to the developers, would guide players through the game.

Fans may remember that 2014 was the only year that no Need For Speed game title was released. Regarding this, Nilsson explained, "Need for Speed needs to understand what it really is, what are the core values of the brand, what are the types of experiences that we want to give to gamers? And sometimes, it can be hard to do that when you have different development teams in different parts of the world. So the theory, or the strategy, for us was to become the owners of Need of Speed."

The Need for Speed reboot is slated for release this fall. It is expected to be showcased at E3 in June.
