'Game of Thrones' Season 5: Series Setting Up Jon Snow Death in Next Season- Report [Rumors]

As fans eagerly await news and an official release date for George R.R. Martin's latest epic "Winds of Winter," there is talk that by the time the sixth season rolls around, a popular series character may die.

Recalling that "Song of Ice and Fire" saw the death of a fan-favorite character, Jon Snow, Franchise Herald reports that recent events in season 5 could be leading to the same conclusion.

In the book, Snow is killed by the Night's Watch brothers and the site writes, "The past few episodes of 'Game of Thrones' featured Jon Snow's desire to unite with the Wildings since the Winter is coming. In the 'Song of Ice and Fire' novel, the brothers of the Night's Watch insisted that no such thing should happen and when Ned Stark's bastard decided to break his vow, his brothers-in-arms had no choice but to ambush him as they whisper the words, 'For the Watch'."

"Winds of Winter" Release Date

Fans are worried that without the "Winds of Winter," the show will overtake the books effectively spoiling the content of the upcoming book.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the famed author admitted, "I wish it was out now. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic about how quickly I can finish. But I canceled two convention appearances, I'm turning down a lot more interviews - anything I can do to clear my decks and get this done."

Unfortunately, the current fifth season of "Game of Thrones" may be the major stumbling block for the author to complete the awaited book. In an article by the Huffington Post, the series may have had its best episode yet in its whole series. Episode 7 of Season 5, entitled "The Gift" honored the death of Aemon Targaryen as well as provided the best courage sequences and line exchanges yet for the series.

The highlight of the episode, Tyrion and Daenerys finally met face to face. At their meeting, Tyrion said, "I am the gift. It is a pleasure to meet you, your grace. My name is Tyrion Lannister."

"Game of Thrones" season 5 airs on Sundays at 9:00 pm ET on HBO.
