'Spider Man' Reboot 2017: Matthew McConaughey Confirmed? Actor Playing Major Villain Role [Rumor]

With Spider-Man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a number of reports have been circulating regarding the solo film's cast and plot.

While it remains to be confirmed by Marvel, rumor has it Oscar winning actor Matthew McConaughey is being favored to play Spidey's arch nemesis Norman Osborn, reported That Hastag Show (via IB Times). The news follows an earlier confirmation by the "Dallas Buyers Club" star that he has read movie scrips for Marvel as well as DC.

The actor declined to name which films he's considered but per Variety, the 45-year-old said:

"I've read some Marvel and DC scripts and I've talked about working with them on some scripts, none of which I'll share with you what they are - or were. Yeah, I've circled some of those. Nothing has been right for me yet. But I'm sure open to it."

Other actors that have played the role of Norman Oscorp/ Green Goblin include Willem Dafoe and Chris Cooper.

The new "Spider-Man"stand-alone reboot is slated for a 2017 release. Actors linked to the role of the web-slingging hero aka Peter Parker have included Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Asa Butterfield, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James, recalled First Post.

According to IB Times, Asa Butterfield is the likely candidate to play the iconic New York City superhero. Previous reports have speculated the film will cover Peter Parker's life in high school. Prior to the solo film, Spider-Man will debut in another MCU film, believed to be the upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" which will drop in 2016.
