'The Walking Dead' Season 6 & Spinoff: 'Fear The Walking Dead' Stories Episodes Based on Real Events

With "The Walking Dead" spinoff premiere fast approaching, new details regarding the inspiration for the new series' storylines have been revealed.

According to "Fear The Walking Dead" executive producer Greg Nicotero (via Melty), the show will be different from the events of the original series with its episodes sourcing episode plots from actual real life vents.

It was announced earlier that the spinoff won't feature the origin of the Walkers outbreak and its causes but now we can also confirm that back stories won't be provided because it wasn't deemed necessary. The show will be more about the days following the outbreak and people's immediate reactions.

Nicotero said that 2012's bath salt "zombie" news played a role in script development:

"What's important in the spin-off is how people react to it. It really is a fascinating statement on current society, because we get most of our information from our iPads and our phones. There have been things that have been happening in recent years... When you hear stories like that, about a guy who attacked someone and bit their face off, imagine how we reacted to that news story at the time."

He then hinted that the strain may have been triggered by an Ebola-like virus:

"Even in the US, there was a nurse who was working in Africa and who came back to the United States and refused to go to the quarantine for Ebola. So I think about stories like that and I go: Woe may be that could have been the beginning or may be this could have been the beginning."

The companion series of "The Walking Dead" has already been confirmed for two-seasons and stars Cliff Curtis, Frank Dillane, Kim Dickens and as reported by IGN, "Orange is the New Black" star Elizabeth Rodriguez has also been cast.

Entertainment Weekly reported earlier that the new show won't be a complete prequel to the main show, series creator Robert Kirkman has teased that the show, set in Los Angeles, may have cross-over elements with "The Walking Dead."

"Fear The Walking Dead" will debut this summer while season 6 of "The Walking Dead" returns in October.

An exact date for the premiere of the new series hasn't been announced meaning the show could begin as early as June or as late as August, reported Inquisitr. However, rumors are circulating that the start date could be June 12.
