‘American Horror Story’ Season 5 Cast & Release Date: Angela Bassett Checks In! Here’s What We Know About Sequel Cast

"American Horror Story" Season 5 has now been joined by Angela Bassett as confirmed by show creator Ryan Murphy on his Twitter page. Fans of the FX horror anthology are delighted that yet another show veteran is returning.

"In October, Angela Bassett will be making lots of trouble with Lady Gaga in the ballroom and elsewhere," Murphy wrote.

To date, no further details have been provided about how exactly Bassett is going to create trouble with the internationally famous pop star but Bloody Disgusting reported that she will be taking on the role of a "jazz singer who regularly performs at the bar of 'Hotel.'" A report from Youth Health Mag confirmed that her character's name will be Lolita Jones.

Bassett first showed up for the "American Horror Story" series franchise as Marie Laveau in Season 3, "Coven." Her character was a voodoo witch who led the war against Jessica Lange's character and her coven of equally strong witches.

She then made a comeback for Season 4, "Freak Show," as Desiree Dupree. As the title entails, her character, was a three-breasted performer who later becomes part of Elsa Mars' groups of interesting people.

The details of the upcoming season's plot remain unknown but Independent confirmed that it was partly inspired by a famous musical comedy in 1935, titled "Top Hat." This comedy reportedly had a hotel setting - a concept that is pretty much fitting for "American Horror Story: Hotel."

It was announced in February that "Bad Romance" singer, Lady Gaga, was going to be leading Season 5. She made the announcement first via a very unique video post on her Twitter account.

Moreover, since "American Horror Story" is quite known for its musical numbers as of late, it is believed that Gaga's participation in the show will involve music in some way. Last season's special renditions of David Bowie's "Life on Mars" and Lana Del Rey's "Gods and Monsters" were praised on social media. According to the report, Gaga's character is named Elisa Starr, "a popular lounge singer," who will be competing with Bassett's Lolita Jones for attention.

Apart from Gaga, Bassett will be joining the ranks of Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson, Chloe Sevigny, Wes Bentley, and Matt Bomer. The "Magic Mike" actor and Jackson have reportedly been cast as bell boys, named Terry Castro and Thomas Seabras, respectively.
