Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight & Rematch: Why Did Pacman Lose to 'The Money'?

Floyd Mayweather Jr. reigned supreme once more after beating Manny Pacquiao on Saturday in Las Vegas via a unanimous decision.

The loss of the more aggressive People's Champ to the defensive Mayweather, who now holds a 48-0 win-loss boxing record under his name, instantly agitated the crowd of the MGM Arena in Las Vegas. Despite the judges' decision and Mayweather's "smart" boxing style, the main event's winner got booed by the crowd.

Why did Pacman lose?

What Experts Say

The 2013 WBC Referee of the year Bruce McTavish who also refereed Manny's previous title fights, told PhilStar, "Mayweather is fighting it smart. Boring, but smart."

Respected boxing analyst, Atty. Ed Tolentino, shared his opinion to PhilStar. "Floyd Mayweather got Manny Pacquiao dancing to his tune. And when you let Floyd dictate the tempo, he will win. It's that simple."

The former Philippine Sports Commission chairman and boxing promoter Philip Juico, also explained, "Pacquiao was unable to throw enough punches in bunches to really do damage. I was expecting about triple the number of blows to be thrown by Pacquiao."

What Pacman's Camp Says

Many fans also noticed that Pacman, although still appeared as the more aggressive fighter last Saturday's boxing showdown, was not his usual more ferocious self. Fans were not able to see the combination he usually gives his opponents in his other matches. Was he also more careful? Was something bothering him?

Apparently, there was something off with Manny that night, as revealed in the post-fight conference.

Pacman claimed that he has shoulder injury three to four weeks prior to the big fight, as reported by The Urban Daily.

"I did my best, but my best wasn't good enough, I don't want to make alibis or complain or anything. Three weeks before the fight, I skipped my training for that reason. We did an MRI, and there's a tear in my right shoulder," said Pacman in the conference, as reported by The Urban Daily.

Citing sources, Kevin Iole of Yahoo! noted that Pacquiao's reported injury may take months to heal.

"We felt the [rehabilitative] work that was done on the shoulder during training would give him the opportunity to use the right hand,' promoter Bob Arum said, as quoted by Yahoo! "We were disappointed when in the third round the injury kicked up again, but this is always the case in sport. ... He heals the injury, thinks he's conquered it and it flares up again," Arum added.

Asked by the media to comment about Pacquiao's injury, Nevada Athletic Commission Chairman Francisco Aguilar, said he only heard about the injury a couple of hours befor the fight. Thus, as per policy, Pacman was denied the shot to stop inflammation, The Urban Daily reported.

The Bleacher Report wrote that "If Pacquiao's camp plays up the story of the shoulder injury, a rematch could be on the cards," but that may not be the case if Roach continues on with his tirade against Mayweather.

However, a rematch for these two boxers may still ultimately disappoint the fans based on Saturday's fight. Manny had earned zealous fans because of his aggressive style but it seems, it was no match to Mayweather's defensive technique.
