'The Kingsman: Secret Service 2' Cast, Update & Release Date: Sequel To See The Return Of Colin Firth's Character? [Rumors]

When 20th Century Fox came out with "Kingsman: The Secret Service" in February, many were uncertain how it would fare in the box office as it came against the controversial "Fifty Shades of Grey" film. However, the movie did so well than expected that it has been confirmed that a sequel is in the works.

According to The Wrap, sources close to the production team were the ones who revealed details about the upcoming sequel. As the film did so well in the box office, going beyond the $400 million mark globally, it seems logical that a follow-up film would be made.

The movie, which was set in London and starred Colin Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Taron Egerton, and Michael Caine, only had a small $80 million budget for production.

Come opening weekend, "Kingsman: The Secret Service" hit $41 million and had since gone beyond that and earned $275 million overseas.

The reception and revenue reportedly was enough for the executives in the studio to consider a part two for the R-rated and very graphic film.

Not too many details about the sequel are known yet. It is unclear whether Matthew Vaugh, who directed the first film, would once again return to helm the sequel, said Cinema Blend. The director is said to have a very packed scheduled with the upcoming "Flash Gordon" project along the way.

Vaugh, who also produced the film and co-authored the script with Jane Goldman, has never directed a sequel. Though his projects, such as "Kick-Ass" and "X-Men: First Class," were successful enough to warrant follow-up films, he was never active in developing the sequels.

Meanwhile, many fans of the film have shown concern about its plot. Fan favorite Firth was killed towards the end of the film which caused many to reel in shock. However, an earlier interview with Vaugh said that should there be a sequel to the film, Firth's character just might return.

Another article in Cinema Blend  in February 2015 quoted the director to have shared the possibility that Firth would be back.

"A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I'm coming up with idea at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I've got a feeling we'll figure out a way for having Colin back," said the director.

No date has been set for the release of "Kingsman: The Secret Service 2" yet.
