'Penguin' of 'Batman Returns' Danny DeVito Quietly Sells Beverly Hills Estate

Danny DeVito, the actor who portrayed the role of "Penguin" in "Batman Returns", quietly sells the Beverly Hills estate he shares ownership with his actress-wife, Rhea Perlman, reports Variety. However, the off-market transaction has an alleged buyer who is said to be a "mansion-flipping couple who late last year unloaded a freshly rehabbed Holmby Hills estate for a tetch under $30 million," notes the site.

Variety reports that since it was done via a private sale, there was no available listing readily accessible online but pointed to a listing in Beverly Hills that Variety itself reported in 2007

In the earlier report, the site said that the asking price of the estate in the luxurious community of Beverly Hills at that time was already a whopping price of $31,900,000. The posh mansion covers 14,759 sq.ft. of living area that includes 5 bedrooms and 7 baths.

The property was reportedly described on its listing as "most remarkable estate in Beverly Hills." The home was designed by Wallace Neff to achieve "classic understated elegance", and to be upgraded to the "highest quality." The estate features a professional 35mm projection room and an office. The home includes an "outstanding kitchen" and a "dramatic master bedroom" apart from the 5 bedroom suites previously mentioned. Aside from the main house, the property boasts a "complete guest house with additional office and garage."

Outside, the owners will have twice the fun in the "two separate swimming pools." The Beverly Hills estate also covers about "two acres of lush private park-like landscaping." The listing informed that in 2007, it was the home's first time to be offerred on the market for almost 2 decades.

If this were the home that was just recently sold by the power couple, it means that the property took 8 years before it changed hands. Part of the reason could be the clause in the listing for "pre-qualified showings only."

The Emmy Award-winning DeVito did not initially consider acting as his career, Bio noted. Devito stated, "I wasn't sure what I wanted to do when I got out of high school. College didn't seem a likely or desirable option, and I didn't want to go too far away." His sister reportedly invited him to be a hairdresser at her own salon. DeVito replied, "Well, I'm not doing anything else, and I could meet a lot of girls there."

It was when he registered at New York's American Academy of Dramatic Arts to study cosmetology that he knew that he desired to be an actor, says IMDb. Soon, he reportedly became friends with then aspiring actor turned two-time Oscar-awardee, Michael Douglas and worked with several  projects such as "Romancing the Stone" (1984), "The Jewel of the Nile" (1985), "The War of the Roses" (1989) and in "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975), which Douglas produced.

He also met a young actress, Perlman, whom he married in 1982, notes the database. In 2012, after 30 years, they announced their separation but in 2013, DeVito tried his best to win her back, reported Ace Showbiz.
