PS5 Release Date & Rumors: Should The Next PS4 be a Compact Console? [Poll]

It has been almost two years since Sony's PlayStation 4 game console was released in the market and fans of the entertainment gaming device are already looking forward to its successor, the PlayStation 5.

While Sony has not actually confirmed that the PS5 is arriving soon, numerous reports came out to indicate that the Japanese tech firm is already on its way to produce it.

Rumors have also circulated on the possible specifications, features, and even the look of the upcoming game console. With numerous devices and technologies out in the market that target mobility, it might not be a surprise if the PS5 comes in a smaller and more compact hardware.

According to Latino Post, the upcoming console could greatly improve its size to usher in a smaller device. While the size might be not as big as its predecessor, Sony might pack it with more power and better features.

Among those listed is the possibility of an enhanced cooling system that would prevent the device from overheating quickly after prolonged usage. The PS5 might also use "illuminated buttons" to help users make the distinction between the open disc and power button easier.

If the device comes in a smaller package, it could mean that the problem in "loading disc noise" could be eliminated.

However, a report in Venture Capital Post posited that it is highly improbable for the PS5 to come in a smaller console.

The article cited the current trends and technologies out in the market that Sony might take advantage of to avoid making the gadget obsolete. With these new additional features, it might seem difficult to include them all in one small package -  thus the need for a bigger console.

With the competition rising as smartphones and tablets become gaming devices as well, Sony would need to keep up and introduce amazing features that would continue to attract players.

An article in Value Walk noted that the Japanese tech firm is already looking at the "prospect of gaming in the cloud" to truly keep up with the tag of a "next generation console."

The possibility of the new device sporting a 4K display is also not that far off, if the company hopes the market would continue its interest in the device.

For the moment, no release date has been projected for the PS5 but if previous launch calendars would be followed, it could mean that there are still five more years to wait until it comes out in the market.
