Marvel's Stan Lee Dissing DC Comics? Says DC is Just Catching Up

Comic book icon Stan Lee is definitely all about Marvel. During a recent event, the 92-year-old writer-editor, who was the man behind a slew of popular superheroes, seems to imply that DC isn't in the same league.

According to the Toronto Sun, while at the Gillette/ "Star Industries" event, Lee told Postmedia Network Marvel is way head of its rival comic book company.

"DC, of course, is trying to catch up to Marvel," he openly commented.

"More power to them. It's good if everybody does well, but they're certainly starting from a ways back. They have a lot of catching up to do. But (the problem is) Marvel has so many heroes. DC just has Superman, Batman and maybe Wonder Woman. Perhaps they'll use The Flash. Green Lantern wasn't very successful, but we'll see."

As it stands, the site notes that since the first film was released ("Iron Man" in 2008), Marvel has already released 10 films which we've seen turn into massive franchises. These films include movie series for Thor, Captain America, Iron Man and Avengers. They have also launched a successful ABC show "Agents of SHIELD" and have announced "Daredevil" which will be available on Netflix.

Speaking of characters and movies, Lee also mentioned how he previously wanted to do a Daredevil TV show but Marvel's management didn't see eye to eye with him at the time.

As another teaser for fans, he spoke about some of the things Marvel has in the pipeline.

"After Ant-Man, we're going to start playing around with Doctor Strange, the Black Panther, the Inhumans, and then we have to come back for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Big Hero 6, the Avengers, Captain America...

I don't even know how they decide what to do next, because every one of them is so exciting and the public is waiting for them."

DC Comics Vs. Marvel Comics

Earlier this year, it was reported that Warner Bros. Chairman-CEO Kevin Tsujihara has spoken out about what makes Marvel and DC different.

When compared with Marvel, he describes the DC world to be "very different," and added, "They're steeped in realism, and they're a little bit edgier than Marvel's movies."

The superheroes of DC Comics need no introduction. "The big franchises are becoming more and more valuable," continued Tsujihara. "You don't have to explain to the consumer what a 'Batman v Superman' is."
