'Fifty Shades of Grey' Movie: 'Darker' Sequel Cast & Production Update Revealed? Details Here [Rumors]

The sequel to the global blockbuster "Fifty Shades of Grey" has reportedly been encountering a number of challenges but some good news have been circulating. 

With regards to the production of the second film, "Fifty Shades Darker," ComingSoon.net reports that Academy Award nominated producer Michael De Luca is returning to produce for the "Fifty Shades of Grey" franchise.

In a statement, via the news portal, Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley shared:

"Mike is one of the most talented producers in Hollywood today... His creative instincts and deep industry relationships will be a terrific complement to our studio. Mike has been an incredible friend and mentor to me for many years and I'm thrilled to have him on the Lot with us."

As a response, the movie veteran shared his gratitude and shared his excitement over the continuing project:

"I feel incredibly grateful and honored to be returning to the Universal family and build on the wonderful production experiences I've already enjoyed there... Donna Langley is not only completely brilliant and inspired in her job but one of the best human beings I've ever had the privilege of knowing. She is truly one of my best friends in the world and I am beyond excited to work with her, Peter Cramer, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Josh Goldstine and her whole Universal team on this next phase of our collaborations."

New Cast Addition?

As reported earlier, franchise stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan are expected to return for the film's second installment but director Sam Taylor-Johnson has already confirmed her departure from the series. 

News has surfaced that alongside the Johnson and Dornan, model-turned-actress Cara Delevingne will be joining the movie with a spicy role opposite the character of Christian Grey. Per a Daily Star source (via CapitalFM), Delevingne will appear in the sequel with a NSFW role. 

"Cara is wowing in her performance in Pan with Hugh Jackman, and E.L. James loves the idea of her as a name being in the next movie," shared the insider.

Sequel Release Date

While the sequel was expected to be released in 2016, sources indicate that it's becoming highly unlikely the film will hit cinemas by next year. Without any unexpected delays, "Darker" is anticipated to be released in 2017 with trilogy writer E.L. James set to pen the movie's script. 

"Fifty Shades of Grey" debuted Valentine's 2015 and has since collected more than $500 million globally.
