'Gotham' Season 2 Cast, Update & Release Date: 'Clayface' & 'The Mad Hatter' Added in New Episodes, 'Mr. Freeze' Coming?

The first season of "Gotham" is yet to end but fans are already in great anticipation of what the next season would bring. Word is out that things are about to get more exciting and scary as producers revealed that not one but two more villains are to set foot in the infamous city in the upcoming season.

The cast and production members of the popular TV series were a guest panel at the WonderCon event held in California over the Easter weekend. During the event, series producer John Stephens shared details about the upcoming season that has left many fans eager to see the next adventure that awaits Detective James Gordon.

According to Screen Rant, Stephens said, "Clayface and Mad Hatter are both villains we're going to bring in [as well]. They both have great backstories and great personalities. Clayface especially is a character I want to explore the origin of."

"Gotham" might have been based on the story of Gordon and his city but the series has also become an "origins story," which has shown many of the characters in the popular DC comics before they became the villains and heroes they are now known as.

And it seems that the producers intend to bring more characters from the comic book into the TV series to keep things fresh for fans, as the show continues to explore the backstory of each characters.

Another villain that might make his way into the TV series is Mr. Freeze.

Stephens continued, "We always want to walk the fine line of the reality of our world. Walking right up to that line where super-villains live. So there are a lot of characters from Batman lore that fit that bill. People like Victor Fries - who's a science villain. You can play a lot of his abilities without going into the world of superheroes."

While these stories alone are enough to keep the second season thrilling, Stephens promised that more unexpected things are in store for the series' followers.

In fact, the producer hinted that the elusive "Court of Owls" is something they are considering for the series, reported Movie Pilot.

"The Court of Owls is something we've discussed a lot. We keep digging up very close to it without pulling the trigger. It's clear that there is a group of shadowy individuals that control and influence Wayne Enterprise and have great power in Gotham and may or may not be connected to Carmine Falcone. Is that The Court of Owls? Maybe... Keep watching and those questions will be answered," teased Stephens.
