'Winds of Winter' Release Date, News & Chapter: New Analysis Says 2016-2017 Book Launch

The release date of George R.R Martin's book, The Winds of Winter" remains uknown even though it is currently one of the most anticipated books. The latest installment for the author's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series follows a long gap sinc "A Dance with Dragons" was released back in 2011.

After careful analysis of the timeline for previous book releases along with consideration for best and worst case scenarios, The Christian Post reports that per BryndenBFish, a qualitative assessment pegs "The Wind of Winter" will be released sometime between the end of 2016 to early 2017.

"Taking into account the author's book tours for 'A Dance with Dragons,' the projection brings up a total of 200 completed pages by July 2012. With a 168-manuscript pages Martin sent to his editor in February 2013, and his announcement he was 'a quarter of the way done' with the book during HBO's season three premiere of "GoT," the projection went up to 375 pages completed by March 2013."

BryndenBFish reported that Martin is averaging 17 pages per month of 204 pages in a year, the most pessimistic estimate pegs a mid to 2019 but a safe estimate would be a timeline between the end of 2016 to early 2017.

Martin' Statement on "Winds of Winter"

Earlier this month, Martin took to his blog to make a statement on his work on "Winds of Winter." In the entry titled, "Sorry, Saratoga" the 66-year-old announced he wouldn't be attending the World Fantasy Convention as well as the San Diego Comic-Con to focus on pending projects.

However, while he has vehemently voiced his frustration over deadlines, the writer did tease a possible book release this year.

"Should I complete and deliver WINDS OF WINTER before these cons roll round, I reserve the right to change my mind,"

The statement was followed by another post which clarified the literary icon won't be canceling all his 2015 schedules and his pending work to be done isn't on the production of "The Wind of Winter" alone. Toward the end of his post George took the opportunity to share the nature of his involvement for the sixth season of "Game of Thrones."

"...after wrestling with it for a month or so, I've decided not to script an episode for season six of GAME OF THRONES. Writing a script takes me three weeks, minimum, and longer when it is not a straight adaptation from the novels.  And really, it would cost me more time than that, since I have never been good at changing gears from one medium to another and back again. Writing a season six script would cost me a month's work on WINDS, and maybe as much as six weeks,  and I cannot afford that.  With David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Bryan Cogman on board, the scriptwriting chores for season six should be well covered. My energies are best devoted to WINDS."

Over the past few days, many fans are worried that the HBO series, "Game of Thrones" will outpace the "Song of Ice and Fire" and possibly spoil the book's ending.
