'Call of Duty: Black Ops 3' Release Date News: Reports Indicate Arrival Timeline [Rumors]

The next installment for the popular video game series "Call of Duty" has not had any shortage of fanfare. A new report has detailed why the next title is likely to be a "Black Ops" installment and its possible timeline of release.

For gamers who love the game series, Attack of the Fan Boy cited a recent report that discusses Activision's confirmation of a new game in development (courtesy of Treyarch), SuperData analyzed that recent successes have set "the stage for the hotly anticipated fall release of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3."

The site does add that while nothing has been confirmed, we are likely to get news within the coming weeks as Activision usually announces new "Call of Duty" games around May. Following the May unveiling, "Call of Duty" games are released in time for the year-end holiday, typically around November.

Earlier this year, Activision confirmed that Treyarch is back to develop a 2015 "Call of Duty" installment. The developer has had massive successes in the past with regards to its "Call of Duty" titles that include "Call of Duty: World at War," "Call of Duty: Black Ops," and "Call of Duty: Black Ops II."

"This fall's game will be Treyarch's first on the three-year development cycle. It will be loaded with innovation, and we're excited to share more details with our community soon," quoted Polygon of Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg.

Currently, the "Call of Duty" franchise has instituted a three-developer system that has now included Sledgehammer Games who helmed the 2014 release of "Advanced Warfare." Treyarch, Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward Studios split development duties and will be rotating a game every three years.

It was speculated earlier (via OnlySp) that while other rumors indicate a possible "World at War" title, it's more likely that Treyarch is working on a "Black Ops" title.

For the mean time, there are available downloadable content for "Advanced Warfare" being released by Sledgehammer. Gamers can expect the newest pack of DLC "Ascendance" at the end of the month, March 31 for Xbox One and Xbox 360.

It was disclosed by Hirshberg in February that "Advanced Warfare" has generated over $1 billion in sales with DLC sales continuously up annually. However, Forbes has updated that the newest release has generated lower sales than what is usual for the franchise.

What are your thoughts on the possible third installment for "Black Ops"? Would you prefer that to "World at War II"?
