Beck Hansen Pays $2.7 Million For Santa Monica 1925 Fixer-Upper

Grammy-winning artist Beck Hansen has reportedly purchased a Santa Monica home that needs a bit of work.

According to a new report by Variety, Hansen and wife Marissa Ribisi put up $2.71 million for a "fixer-upper" earlier this month. The home that has 2,456 square feet includes five bedrooms and three bathrooms was listed as a "double-gabled Tudor-ish residence from the late 1920s."

The house's ad lists the property as one that offers new buyers an "opportunity to remodel or rebuild." Regardless of what the ad may think of the home's state, the publication notes that Beck was pretty decided to own the home. Per online sources, the musician reportedly shelled out $316,000 more than the published asking price.

Constantly On The Move

Beck has had a reputation for owning a string of properties and unloading after a short period of time. Variety recalled that in the last dozen or so years, he has owned a number of different houses.

Beginning in 2002, he purchased a mini-mansion for $2.25 million and sold it for nearly double within three years. Following this, the singer opted from properties in Rustic Canyon totaling $4.75 million, which he sold two years later (2007) for $4.8 million. Prior to the last sale, he bought a ranch house in Point Dume which he sold by 2010 at a loss of about $350,000.

Within the same year, he purchased a property in Hancock Park for nearly $7 million, which he attempted to flip but ended taking a hit at $5.6 million.

Trashed Rental

In addition to real estate investments, Beck has also been in the news after being reported as a less than desirable tenant. Per LA Curbed, Beck had problems when he rented a Malibu property from "Inglorious Basterds" actor Til Schweiger.

Beck rented the house for $11,000 a month for three years and cited "huge problems" with the property. The singer claims he needed to do quite a bit of work on the home as it was in bad shape. As a counter, Schweiger says he [Beck] did "unauthorized work" on the residence that resulted in "substantial physical damage." Both celebrities filed their own suits with regards to the property damage issue.

It'll be interesting to see what Beck and his wife decide to do with the property. While they could play the property flipping game, it's also possible that Beck may opt to remodel the home and build something he'll finally be comfortable in and stay a bit longer in that just a couple of years.
