The Crown is back for its last season, putting an end to a seven-year run that became an international hit when it premiered in 2016. Throughout its six seasons, The Crown has made use of multiple filming locations to recreate the homes of the British royal family.

In honor of The Crown's final season, the last episodes of which will be released in December, here are some of the show's most iconic filming locations that are open to the public.

Lancaster House - London, England

The Lancaster House is perhaps the location most familiar to fans of The Crown, largely due to the fact that its interiors portray those of Buckingham Palace. Commissioned in 1825, the Lancaster House is only open to the public during London's annual weekend-long Open House Festival. Outside of that period, the Lancaster House can be toured virtually for free.

Ardverikie Estate House - Kinlochlaggan, Scotland

Seen in seasons one, two, four, and five, the Ardverikie Estate House stands in for Balmoral Castle, known for being the late Queen Elizabeth's beloved retreat. Built in the 19th century, the location is not only open for public viewing; there are also several holiday cottages on the property that visitors can rent.

Somerleyton Hall - Suffolk, England

In previous seasons, Somerleyton Hall was used to portray Queen Elizabeth II's country home, the Sandringham Estate. This season, the location will serve as Highgrove House, the residence of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

Somerleyton Hall is privately owned. However, it is open for garden tours and events, per its website.

York Minster - North Yorkshire, England

Reverend Dr Matthew Porter (4L), Reverend Canon Anna Eltringham (5L), The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Stephen Cottrell (C), Archbishop of York and Reverend Canon Smitha Prasadam (2R) pose for pictures outside York Minster following their consecration service on June 22, 2023 in York, England. The consecration service was held for Reverend Dr Matthew Porter, currently Vicar of St Michael le Belfrey, York, who will become the new Bishop of Bolton in the Diocese of Manchester. The Reverend Canon Smitha Prasadam, currently Chaplain of St Albans, Copenhagen, Denmark, who will become the new Bishop of Huddersfield and Reverend Canon Anna Eltringham who will become the new Bishop of Ripon. The Most Reverend and Right Honourable Stephen Cottrell, Archbishop of York, presided at the service.

The Crown's last season is expected to depict plenty of historic events in the British royal family's timeline, including Charles and Camilla's wedding in 2005. That wedding, which took place in Windsor, will be filmed in York Minster.

York Minster offers regular, free guided tours from Monday to Saturday. In addition, the cathedral also offers a tower trip and a tour of the minster's hidden spaces.

Members of the public sit outside Winchester Cathedral in Winchester, Hampshire on March 31, 2021, as England's third Covid-19 lockdown restrictions eased on March 29, allowing groups of up to six people to meet outside.

In season three, the Winchester Cathedral served as the backdrop for the funeral of Winston Churchill. In the series' final season, the cathedral will stand in as London's Westminster Abbey, where Princess Diana's funeral was held after she tragically died in a car accident.

University of St. Andrews - St. Andrews, Scotland

The University of St. Andrews in Scotland will be featured in season six of The Crown, particularly in the second part of the series. The campus serves as the location where Prince William and Kate Middleton met.
