Samsung Galaxy S6 vs HTC One M9: What's Hot & What's Not?

The first day of March brought in the unveiling of not just one but three gadgets that a lot of tech geeks have been waiting for. While everyone is excited for what the Mobile World Congress has in store, Samsung and HTC gave their fans an advance peek of their flagship devices.

Taiwanese tech firm HTC and Korean giant Samsung both held press events a day ahead of the MWC 2015 opening to launch their new products. The hyped up HTC One M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge were released with much fanfare that rivaled the rumors leading to their launch.

With the units now out in the public, the battle for which is better officially began. While the HTC One M9 and Samsung Galaxy S6 have been placed head to head even before it came out, a complete comparison is due now with more than just rumored specifications and features to rely on.

According to BGR, the new devices clocked in impressive results after being subjected to the AnTuTu benchmark. HTC's M9 recorded 55,000 compared to Samsung S6's 70,000. While the result of HTC is already high among Android phone standards, it still did not quite measure up against Samsung's standards.

Reviewers owed Samsung's result to the new 64-bit octa-core Exynos processor, which the S6 is outfitted with as compared to HTC's Qualcomm Snapdragon 810.

In terms of camera features, both gadgets made significant upgrades from their former flagship units. Samsung utilized a 16MP rear shooter with f1.9, while HTC ditched its former UltraPixel camera for a 20MP f2.2 back shooter.

While the megapixel is a lot higher for the HTC One M9, it seems that the quality of the photos was still not as outstanding as expected, said Greenbot. This was especially more obvious when taking photos in low light.

Though the megapixel is quite lower than its Taiwanese rival's, the focusing and shutter speed of the Samsung Galaxy S6 is very fast compared with its predecessors. Photos appear clear and not over-processed.

Samsung may have the advantage in the camera but the audio system goes to the HTC One M9. The Taiwanese manufacturer replaced its speaker with a Dolby Audio technology that truly delivers.

For the over-all look, not much seems to have changed with the M9. It still looked very similar with the M8, which seemed to disappoint a lot of fans expecting a sleeker and classier look for the new phone, said BGR.

Meanwhile, Samsung spared no expense with the Galaxy S6 and made a new phone entirely from scratch, which includes its software and external features.

It might be too early to say that Samsung trumps the Android smartphone competition against HTC but based on current reports, the Korean firm may be the one to live up to the hype it generated.
