'Iron Man 4' Trailer, Release Date & Cast: Film Happening? Why Movie Could be Announced March 5 [Rumors]

Last week, Marvel superstar Robert Downey Jr. teased an upcoming massive announcement to be made on March 5 and many believe it will confirm the fourth installment of the "Iron Man" franchise.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Downey, teased over Twitter a "big announcement in 8 days" that had many speculating what the announcement could be about.

"You've been good so here's a new #IronMan poster from @Avengers. & on the DL, big announcement in 8 days... #getexcited," said the 49-year-old superstar.

Marvel Possibilities

Let's assess the different possibilities.

While the announcement may very well be related to the upcoming "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Screen Crush reports that with only weeks remaining till film release, this would be the most opportune time to provide new information to tease audiences but why is Downey the focus? If it was "Avengers 2" related, Marvel could've used other characters or more of the characters to cause a stir but they didn't, which is puzzling.

Others expect that the film could be related to other Marvel projects, namely the upcoming third title for "Captain America." However, details as well as the plot have already been discussed and Downey along with Chris Evans have already been confirmed so not much is really left to be discussed that would warrant such attention.

Relatedly, there is also new speculation that the reveal could be related to the new franchise to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Spider-Man. Latino-Review reported in an exclusive that Iron Man has a big role to play in the 2017 Spider-Man solo flick. "A major part of the first film will involve Spider- Man fighting Iron Man," noted the site.

However, while these are all in the realm of possibilities, it must be noted that the actor could have posted another film poster, but no, he opted for a "stand-alone" image indicating the announcement definitely has something to do with his character, Iron Man.

Now, granted that Marvel's already slated films till 2020, Downey will be 55-years-old by then, there is no indication that a surprise film can't be squeezed somewhere there. "Iron Man" is such a box office force that if details can be ironed out, there's no way the studio wouldn't find a way to squeeze in the film in that multi-year timeline.

At this point, fans can't rule out Downey making a fourth film. What about you, what're your thoughts? Sound off by using the comment boxes below!
