A new source has confirmed that Oscar winning actress Meryl Streep along with Chloe Moretz & Liam Hemsworth.
Rumors have been circulating regarding the cast for the upcoming reboot and according to Jewish Business News, all three stars have confirmed to star in the upcoming film.
Unlike its predecessor, 1995's "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie," the flick will have a number of big names attached to it. The site, although it doesn't specific its source, claims that "The Devil Wears Prada" star's involvement is a done deal. Streep is said to have bagged the role of Rita Repulsa, the film's villain. It also claims that "The Hunger Games" hunk Liam Hemsworth will play Red Ranger while takes on the role of the Pink Ranger.
Given that no news of such the casting has been officially confirmed nor does the site offer the name of its source, such news should be taken with a grain of salt.
Power Rangers Franchise
So far, the Lionsgate film has Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz handing the script along side Haim Saban. The writers are known for the work together that include big films like "Thor," "X-Men: First Class," as well as "Starship Troopers," noted ScreenRant.
The official synopsis of the film is as follows (via ScreenRant):
"From a story by Executive Producer Roberto Orci (TRANSFORMERS, STAR TREK, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2) and screenwriters Zack Stentz and Ashley Miller (X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, THOR) comes a modern reinvention of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of ordinary high school kids who find themselves infused with extraterrestrial powers and must harness those powers as a team to save the world."
The "Power Rangers" plot centers around a group of high school kids who have supernatural powers and work as a team to save the world from alien monsters. The series began in 1993.
"The Power Rangers stories and characters have been embraced by generations of audiences for more than 20 years, and today they are more powerful than ever," quoted The Wall Street Journal, per The Guardian, of Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer.
"Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level. They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent," added Haim Saban, the characters' creator.
To date, no plot details, trailer or promotional posters have been provided, there are a number of possibilities including an origin story or modern take on the franchise.
The Power Rangers Movie 2016 Cast is set to appear on the movie's release date Jul. 22, 2016.
