‘Big Hero 6’ Sequel Release Date: Baymax, Hiro to Continue Adventure in Part 2? [Rumors]

"Big Hero 6," an animated feature film by Disney, grossed $521 million in the global box office, and is currently in the running for an Oscar award for Best Animated Feature, according to Screen Rant. Although a sequel to every animated film has never been a must, filmmakers may want to discuss the possibility of a second installment for "Big Hero 6" due to the millions it reeled in for the studio.

When John Lasseter and Ed Catmull first led Disney Animation in 2006, there was a highly noticeable cultural shift. They applied changes that compelled the creative team to be more cooperative instead of competitive. With the Story Trust they created, the much awaited sequel might finally be given a green light.

However, co-directors Chris Williams and Don Hall have not had the time to seriously discuss it as of the moment. He did say, though, that he is happy that "Big Hero 6" has "such a strong fan base." Still, the size of a film's following would only come in second after the executives and creators agree that a certain story needs to be told for a sequel to be announced, as reported by Variety.

"If it's not a great story, it won't be a great movie," Williams explained. "The crew deserves a great story and we have expectations from the audience who grew up with Disney animation. They deserve a great story, too."

Even the president of Disney Animation, Andrew Millstein, thinks that the essence of creating film must be focused on "elevating storytelling and putting film makers at the center of the process." It is only through such method that the film may become successful.

"We just finished this one," Hall told Creative Screenwriting, according to Tech Guru Daily. "We're exhausted from the ordeal of making it. It was really fun, but it was long hours, and was pretty intense."

"These are characters that we've grown to know very well," he added. "Now, it's time to let go of them. So, we haven't talked about or thought about any sequels or anything like that. Having said that, of course, the thought of working with them again someday definitely has its appeal."

Tech Guru Daily also mentioned that "Big Hero 6" was actually originally a Marvel story. Fans are very hopeful that there will be sequel to it in the future, especially since it has now been dubbed as the third biggest grossing animated film of all time, taking the previous spot of "Beauty and the Beast." "The Lion King" is at the No. 1 spot, while "Frozen" is at No. 2.
