Valentine’s Day 2015: Movies to Watch When Home Alone? Here’s a List!

Valentine's Day is a day away, and this means the world premiere of "Fifty Shades of Grey" is near as well. The raunchy film, which was based on EL James's bestselling novels, was out in US theaters on Feb. 12, Thursday.

The release date of the film in the US was a day, or a couple, early. Looking at how well the tickets sold, it appears that the much awaited book-to-movie adaptation will be a huge hit. However, those who do not intend to go to the cinema to watch a relatively erotic film can simply stay home and still satisfy their movie cravings, says Radio.

Here are few movie suggestions for those who want to stay in instead:

1. Nine ½ Weeks

The setup of this film is not too far from that of the "Fifty Shades of Grey" as it follows the story of a wealthy businessman who goes after an emotionally vulnerable woman. Eventually, they indulge in taboo risqué games. The film shows Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke in New York grit during the '80s.

2. Love Story

This 1970s classic romantic movie has most likely never been seen by today's younger generation. It has a relatively heartbreaking premise that involves two star-crossed people who meet in college and venture out into the real world on their own.

3. Breathe In

This film was directed by Drake Doremus, who is quite known for his knack of not working with a script. Instead of pushing his actors to memorize lines from a script, Zimbio says that Doremus simply asks them to improvise on the set. "Breathe In" is about an affair and its far-reaching effects.

Oscar-nominee Felicity Jones played the role of an English foreign exchange student who engages in a secret affair with her house parent, played by Guy Pearce, who happens to be her teacher as well.

4. Magic Mike

Since "Magic Mike XXL" still has not premiered in theaters, its predecessor film, "Magic Mike" will have to suffice. The movie showcased compelling performances by Matthew McConaughey and Channing Tatum, which largely contributed to making this guilty pleasure into a new Valentine's Day classic.

5. Pretty Woman

"Pretty Woman" was so good that it withstood the test of time. It may have had some fairly corny jokes, but the chemistry between the movie's two celebrities is very much palpable. Julia Roberts is featured in the film in her now-iconic role as a prostitute with a good heart. Richard Gere, meanwhile, embodies a lonely rich heartthrob with secret talents, such as expertly playing the piano.
